Helping Children Heal from Sexual Abuse is a Free, virtual Parent Support Group for adoptive, foster, or kinship families raising children who have previously suffered sexual abuses.

Just Adoptees: A Monthly Virtual Support Group JUST for Adopted Adults

Have you ever been told or made to feel like you’re Just an Adoptee? If so, then have we got the space for you! The fourth Wednesday of the month is, currently, set aside for Just Adoptees.

“Just Adoptees” is a peer led adoptee-centric support group just for adopted adults. We believe being adopted can come with complexities that only another adopted adult can understand. Our goal is to let every adopted person know they aren’t alone and the way they feel is normal for a not normal situation. This isn’t therapy – it’s better! It’s a group designed to be a “safe space” for adopted adults to gather and share experiences regarding their adoption experience without judgement or expectations.

Online Seminar for Partners of Adoptees

Relationships can be deeply meaningful and, at times, complex. Together in this is a three-part interactive seminar created specifically for partners of adoptees who want to better understand, support, and grow alongside the person they love.

In intentionally small group sessions, we will explore real topics that show up in adoptee relationships, including adoption loss and identity, emotional triggers, holding space during hard moments, communication tools, travel and birth country connections, parenting decisions, and ways to affirm your partner’s story in everyday life.

Conversations are grounded in both professional experience and lived perspective, with respect and care for adoptee voices and stories.

Learn about Spence-Chapin’s innovative host-to-adopt program that prioritizes adoption for children from Colombia, ages 10-13 years old. For families who are open to older child adoption, this pathway provides both you and the child an opportunity to get to know each other and commence the bonding process during a multi-week hosting period in your home. Two different hosting periods are available – a five-week opportunity over the summer, or a three-week opportunity in December. Host families need to complete a home study with Spence-Chapin prior to being matched with a child for hosting, so now is the right time to learn more and get underway with your home study!

This program is open exclusively to families residing in New York, New Jersey, Arizona, and Florida, so that our local social work team can fully support you and the child during the hosting period.

The CUB Parents of Adoption Loss Writer’s Group is a volunteer-run peer-led experience that takes place on the third Sunday of the month.

The information session can help you decide whether you are comfortable taking the next steps to become a licensed Diakon foster family. Sessions are offered without obligation; participants are not required to proceed following the presentation.

This class offers the opportunity to hear from placed adoptive parents. We will explore how people’s lives/daily
routines have changed in becoming parents through open adoption, the realities of parenting and how families have continued to lean on Adoptions from the Heart to support their adoption triad.

Our International Team is excited to host this webinar and to share information about adopting from South Africa. Spence-Chapin is proud to have the longest history of any US-based agency of facilitating adoption from South Africa and we work with adoptive families living across the entire United States. The South Africa program welcomes adoptive applicants regardless of marital status or sexual orientation. In this webinar we will discuss common medical and developmental needs of children who are currently living in South Africa and waiting for their forever families. We will provide an overview the adoption process. We look forward to answering any questions you may have about adoption in general and specific questions about adoption from South Africa.

Teens and tweens are experiencing massive changes in their brain and bodies. This creates pressure to manage a world that is complicated for both youth and parents. Challenging behaviors can manifest as defiance, aggression, withdrawal, or impulsivity; understanding the potential causes and developing effective coping strategies are crucial for supporting teenagers as they navigate this complex phase.

In this free support call first/birth parents will be able to connect, listen and share their experiences of adoption, both private and through the child welfare system. Space will also be provided for participants to explore and share experiences around open adoptions, closed adoptions, recent reunions, same-race adoption, transracial adoption, termination of parental rights, and other topics as decided by the group.
Please remember that this group is for birth/first parents who are related by birth to a child placed in adoption or foster care.

In this webinar, we will hear from Kelly Ellison, adoptive mother and Founder and CEO of Your Adoption Finance Coach. Kelly will provide an overview of financial resources available to families adopting. This will be a great introduction to the many resources that can offset the costs of an adoption process. The information that will be shared in this webinar is valuable for both domestic and international adoption pathways. This webinar welcomes prospective adoptive families, as well as families who are currently in-process of adopting.

Spence-Chapin’s Birth Parent Support Group is a virtual meet-up for individuals who made an adoption plan (with Spence-Chapin or elsewhere) and are in any stage in their placement journey. This group is a safe place to get support and know that you are not alone. Topics will include coping with feelings of grief and loss, sharing challenges and successes with open and closed adoption, and improving communication with friends and family around your adoption plan.

There is no cost to attend.
