  • 2022 Rudd Summer Adoption Research Institute May 22, 2022

    Adoption researchers need to study and respond to adoption trends in order to best help serve children and families. With this in mind, graduate students and recent Ph.D.’s with a strong interest in a career involving adoption research are invited to participate in the 2022 Rudd Summer Adoption Research Institute, May 22 – 27, 2022. The week is kicked off with a Welcome Dinner on the evening of Sunday, May 22, and concludes after a group lunch on Friday, May 27.

    Registration information: A large portion of the costs will be underwritten by the Rudd Adoption Research Program at UMass Amherst. We are pleased to be able to offer this Institute for $595, which includes 4 1/2 days of sessions, materials, daily lunches, two dinners, and coffee breaks. Applicants will be responsible for their own travel to Amherst and housing. On-campus dorm-style and hotel options will be available.

  • Children with Problematic Sexual Behavior: Who are they and how can we help? Information on Problematic Sexual Behavior: Cognitive Behavior Therapy May 25, 2022

    This presentation will begin with foundational information on the continuum of sexual behavior in youth, prevalence of problematic and illegal sexual behavior, common misconceptions, and components of effective interventions.     Considering adopting an infant? Learn about Spence-Chapin’s full-service Domestic Adoption Program during this free webinar!

    This webinar is the first step for families interested in applying to Spence-Chapin as all webinar attendees will receive a Domestic Adoption Program application. Our team will share details about the adoption program, including the application process, open adoption, demographics of the children in need of adoption, the matching process, options counseling for birth parents, and more.

    Bring your questions! The meeting will include ample opportunity to have your questions answered.

    Please note that there are limited spaces available within this webinar and within our Domestic Adoption Program. Given the number of infants placed through our program each year, we welcome a limited number of families into the program each year; this is done to prevent longer wait times for families.   • Extreme Parenting – For Parents of Adopted Children Ages 10+ June 13, 2022

    We have been listening!

    Many, many parents (you aren’t alone!) have expressed their struggles with teens and pre-teens who are participating in risky and dangerous behaviors. Youth with traumatic histories can have extreme behaviors. As parents we are thrust into survival mode trying our best to manage and protect our child, other children in our home, and ourselves.

    Virtual Interactive Workshops Scheduled for:

    June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25

    Extreme Parenting Program’s 4 session series will be offered in both Winter and Summer of 2022.  This program is, specifically, for parents of children ages 10 and up who were adopted. The Extreme Parenting Program will be open to families in all 4 contracts; parents need to have completed the Reframing Parenting Series prior to participation in Extreme Parenting.

  • Webinar & Parent Support Group: Strategies for Parenting a Child with a History of Loss and Trauma June 14, 2022

    Parenting a child with a history that includes loss and trauma requires parents to have a bigger parenting toolbox. This parenting webinar and group will focus on ways to add effective tools to support children from hard places. Come learn and share with others as we build our toolbox and let others borrow as needed.

    The Strategies for Parenting a Child with a History of Loss and Trauma Series will be held via Zoom on Tuesdays (June 14th, June 21st, June 28th, July 12th, July 19th, August 2nd) from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm EST. The series will lead off with a webinar and then subsequent parent support group meetings.
