  • Passaic County 7th Annual Education/Behavioral Health Partnership Conference March 12, 2021

This is not just for Passaic County! We love company!

Looking Beyond the Checklist of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s): Recognition of the impact of trauma and the long-term health and societal impacts on children and families is just the beginning of changing how we see and interact with children and families in distress. This presentation will focus on increasing knowledge about ACE’s and how applying this theoretical understanding in a practical way – how we interact, the environments we create, and the ways we connect to children and families – is the key to building resiliency for the most marginalized and misunderstood in our communities.

Professional Development Certificates will be offered at the end of the conference.

  • Should We or Shouldn’t We? Considering Open Adoption as You Prepare to Become a Parent April 07, 2021

Many, perhaps most, adoptions now begin with the possibility of some amount of openness and contact between birth and adoptive parents. How do you determine what is right for you and your child? How do you know what to expect long term? Each family’s situation is unique and there is no single set of answers, but by drawing on research, lived experience and current models, this workshop will help pre-adoptive and expectant parents find the child-centered path that considers everyone’s needs and acknowledges the power differentials that exist between adoptees, first/birth families and adoptive families.

This webinar is suitable for pre-adoptive parents, expectant parents and professionals working with these populations.

$36 per person non-member. Special pricing Pact members receive 25% discount.

Please choose carefully when registering for Pact events. Pact is not in a position to refund workshop or event registration fees.

  • First/Birth Parent Voices May 05, 2021

First/birth parents are the truest expert on their own experience. In this webinar, participants will hear from a panel of first/birth parents as they discuss the many complexities of adoption.  This diverse and interactive panel will address topics such as pregnancy and childbirth, interactions with professionals, relationships with their child/ren and relationships with their child/ren’s adoptive parents. Through first-person stories and videos, we’ll offer perspectives that represent a spectrum of placements including different types of adoption and reasons for adoption and foster-adoption. There is no single first/birth parent story, so be prepared to have your assumptions challenged and your perspective broadened.

  • Talking with Children About Adoption May 19, 2021

Participants will learn how to start and continue developmentally appropriate conversations about adoption, first families and loss. Topics will include understanding how children experience adoption; why the words we use matter, strategies that match children’s developmental stages, why beginning with a child’s birth makes sense; how to talk about first/birth parents; and how to answer and anticipate children’s questions whether they ask them or not. We will also discuss how to coordinate these conversations when birth parents are available to be part of them and when they are not. Appropriate for pre-adoptive parents, expectant parents considering an adoption plan and both birth and adoptive parents.
