Kress’ experience in Younge’s courtroom had unsettled her. Disturbed by her treatment, she said she would sit outside courtroom 5A and approach other parents about their experiences. She realized she wasn’t alone. “We became a support group for people who had Lyris Younge,” Kress said. She finds no comfort in the fact that Younge, who was elected six years ago, was suspended in June after a series of complaints and no longer oversees family court cases. The fallout from this judge is lasting, she said, as other families who may have been negatively affected by her decisions remain entangled in the system.
