US: Challenges Abound in Repairing America’s Foster Care System
NNPA Newswire – August 11, 2021
According to the Children’s Defense Fund, children in foster care represent the most vulnerable youth in America. Of the 423,997 in foster care in 2019 – 41 percent under the age of six – the average amount of time spent in the system stands at just under 20 months. Authorities say children of color, mainly Black, American Indian and Alaska natives, are dramatically overrepresented in the child welfare system.
