PA: County CYS director speaks regarding agency work and experiences
Ellwood City Ledger – July 14, 2021
CYS Director John Bout discussed the work experiences of caseworkers at CYS, as well as how the agency as a whole compares to CYS agencies in other counties, during the most recent Lawrence County Commissioners’ meeting. Bout said the workers have worked hard over the past year, stating they have been threatened, and sometimes injured in the field. Despite it all, he said the workers are not ashamed of the work they do, stating they work only for the overall well-being of the children. Traditionally, CYS accounts for the most spending out of any of the county departments. However, thanks to an emphasis on reducing the number of children in group homes, CYS is currently operating under budget by 19%, which could save the county upward of $400,000. Bout said at the end of the day, it is not about the money saved, rather, doing what is right for the child.
