NY: Essential programs for kids with disabilities are bleeding staff due to funding shortfall (Includes video) (May require subscription)
Rockland/Westchester Journal News – December 01, 2021
Private programs that provide services to children with disabilities across New York are having to turn away children because they are rapidly losing underpaid teachers and staff, advocates say. Legislators and advocates are calling on Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign legislation that would boost funding and head off a crisis. Bills were passed unanimously by both the Senate (S.6516-A) and Assembly (A.8013). Hundreds of these specialized programs are funded primarily by the state to provide legally required services. Many are losing up to a third of their teachers annually to higher paying jobs with public schools, advocates say.
