“By 2000, the number of foster children adopted in the United States had more than doubled in less than four years, and the numbers are increasing. For children unable to live with their biological families, adoption can provide the permanent, stable environment needed for healthy growth and development. Supporting families receives less attention than the adoption process itself. Studies indicate that many children adopted from care face a variety of physical and mental health challenges, and these children and their adoptive families need a variety of short-and long-term postadoption services. For this book, foster care provider Casey Family Services has requested several research studies to examine fundamental postadoption issues.
