“Is it morally right to transplant children to a completely different culture? Is it desirable to do so? In the furor over the airlift of Vietnamese children in the closing days of the Vietnam War these questions were widely debated. The growing scarcity of babies for adoption has highlighted still other essentially political issues: Is interracial adoption a form of cultural imperialism? Does an unmarried father have any paternal rights? Who should allocate children to would-be adopters? Can adoption and abortion be thought of as alternatives? How much should adopted children know about their parents?”
These questions and others have been answered in different ways throughout history and around the world.
