ADOPTION BY GRANDPARENTS( page 27) by Maurice Foster, Esq. “Adoption by relatives is not a new phenomenon. What is of significance today is that the phenomenon appears to be taking on new dimensions. Evidence is emerging to suggest that the ways in which grandparents are involved in adoption situations are changing notably. Profiles for legal procedures in adoption, such as right to intervention and permissive intervention, are being influenced by dramatically changing demographics and related social dynamics. Crime, drugs, and disease are among the dynamics dictating that foster care, kinship care, and guardianship be discussed specifically in the context of their relationship to adoption by grandparents.
