What was it like, giving up a child?

That question now stunned me like no other.  Not once had my sister or my mother,  my spouse or my friend, a social worker, psychiatrist or marriage counselor, a pastor or a priest, put that question to me.  Here, nearly twenty years later, was the essential question.  But could not see the questioner’s face.  I could not hear the intonation of her voice.  The question was staring at me from my computer screen.
