Adoption as a means of creating families is openly accepted in our society.  A concept of the family as a unit based on ties of affection, as well as on actual performance of the child-rearing role (not only on  biological relationships), has evolved.  This has made it possible for adoptive parents and their children to enjoy the satisfactions of family life.

In our culture, families without children are generally considered incomplete.  They inability to conceive and bear a child has been the prime motivation of a majority of those who desire to adopt; however, an emerging sense of social responsibility and concern about overpopulation is impelling many couples who are already parents to extend their love and care to other children who need parents.
