Finland: Study: Children in home care face more problems as adults than their peers
UK Time News – November 03, 2021
Children placed away from home are at high risk of problematic outcomes in adulthood, according to a joint Finnish-British study. The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Helsinki, the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Oxford, was unusually large and included all children born in Finland between 1986 and 2000. Meanwhile, out of approximately 890,000 children, approximately 30,000 children have been placed in out-of-home care. The study found that for these children, there was a 1.4 to 5-fold increase in the risk of adverse social and health outcomes in adulthood, compared to siblings who were never placed.
