“Social-work salaries lag behind professions like nursing and teaching,” McClain said. “Social workers have the same obligations in terms of student loans, needs to take care of their family, so salaries should really reflect the value that social workers bring.” Pennsylvania social workers are in schools, hospitals and a variety of public agencies, often carrying huge caseloads. The NASW is calling its 2019 campaign “Elevate Social Work,” highlighting the critical functions social workers perform on a daily basis.
