Iraq: Third Committee: Member States are concerned about the situation of children deprived of their “fight for education”
Iraq News Gazette – October 11, 2019
As we approach the thirtieth anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the state of their promotion and protection around the world is cause for great concern in view of the alarming figures examined today by Member States in the framework of the Third Committee on Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Questions. Of the various reports before it, it appears that in 2018, 9 million children were starving before the age of 5, 264 million were working and 420 million children, or nearly one in five children worldwide, lived in conflict-affected areas, not to mention the 121 million children who did not attend school.
